An Alternative Wedding Venue

Sarah and I first met with Laura and Matt at Bradbury Glade a few weeks before the wedding. With the ever-present Covid restrictions in place. We have done most of our communication via phone and email up to this point. Which is never easy, but more than manageable. As we arrived at the venue, the booking manager assumed we were a couple there to see the venue. Although she never stated that. Soon, Laura and matt arrived and made the same assumption. They told us how they were planning to decorate the venue themselves, and asked when our wedding date was. “About 17 years ago” replied Sarah. If nothing else it broke the ice and we all had a bit of a laugh at the mix-up.

Bradbury Glade, Sedgefield

The venue, Bradbury Glade is a unique alternative wedding venue, here in County Durham. It is a brand new, tipi-style venue nestled in a woodland area. The venue is located just outside the village of Bradbury. A few miles west of Sedgefield, along the A689. It’s good to be aware the turn-off for the venue is fairly well hidden, and you can. As we did. Quite easily drive straight past it all together! The Venue is roughly 11 miles south of Durham. It’s almost the exact distance from Darlington too. Making it an easy venue to access from either town/city. The 3 main Tipis along with the one mid-sized tipi. Can accommodate up to 150 guests

The Wedding

Laura and Matt were married at the church Laura have attended since she was a child.  Durham City Baptist Church. A very unthreatening kind of church. If you walked past it, you probably wouldn’t realise it was a church at all. The ceremony was attended by friends and family, along with what Laura refers to as her “church family”. It gave the wedding a real sense of community spirit.

The Reception

After the wedding, the whole party headed down the A1 to Sedgefield. Once we had gone through the formalities of the wedding line and greeted the guests, Laura, Matt and I had a little wander through the accompanying woodland. If you’re a returning visitor to my blog page. Or follow my Landscape photography account on Instagram, you’ll know I have a penchant for woodland photography. Or check out some of my woodland photography blogs! Anyway, back to the actual topic of this blog.

I’m a little upset with myself that I couldn’t get a shot in the woods. But I feel we more than made up for that.

All in all, I think everyone (including me) had a really enjoyable day. In the gallery below, I have included a selection of images from the day. It’s not the full wedding gallery, just some of my personal highlights. Feel free to have a browse through the photos.
