Wedding Photography at Mercure Hotel Darlington

Wedding Photography at Mercure Hotel Darlington

Adam and Chloe were married on 19th November 2020. Their wedding and reception took place at the Mercure Darlington King’s Hotel. The Hotel is situated in the heart of Darlington town centre. The hotel is one of the town’s most iconic buildings/ it’s construction dates to Victorian times. In 2012 the hotel was decimated after a fire but has since been restored. With over 80 guest rooms, and the magnificent Kings ballroom.

In addition Adam and Chloe originally booked in for the silver package. Again, due to concerns around Covid and whether the wedding would go ahead. But once we got the OK from the government, they chose to upgrade to the gold wedding photography package. This meant we could get some stunning shots of Chloe and the bridal party as they got ready for the big day.

The Mercure Darlington king’s hotel is an amazing hotel for a wedding. I think this may have been our first wedding in Darlington. As mentioned in the first paragraph. A few years ago, the hotel was decimated by a fire in 2012. Which I remember quite vividly. Up until that point I didn’t even know it was a hotel!

In addition, the King’s Ballroom where the reception was held is a stunning ballroom. On par with the more classical country house hotels, we have across the northeast of England. Even better as they had the most beautiful Christmas tree. I mean, I’m not much for Christmas (bah humbug). But the trees all around the hotel were stunning.

To shoot Adam and Chloe’s wedding, I used my new camera set up for the whole day. Coupled with a brand new set of flashes. As you may know I recently invested in a pair of Nikon Z6IIs, a 24-70 f/4 lens. Along with a Sigma ART 35mm f/1.4 prime lens. This is a change from the old DSLRs that I’ve been using throughout my wedding photography career. I figured it was time to go all in on the mirrorless systems of the future. The great thing about having switched to the smaller mirrorless cameras. Is the weight savings. My old Nikon D800 with a lens, probably weighs the same as both new cameras.
